Shoppers can find a variety of handicrafts in shops along Sections 2 and 3 of
Chungshan North Road, at the Chinese Handicraft Mart, and at night markets.
The Chinese Handicraft Mart is the best alternative to wandering the streets and
alleys of Taipei looking for a souvenir or that perfect, unusual gift. Among the hundreds
of items offered are cloisonne, porcelain and pottery, marble, brass, wall scrolls and
paintings, jade and other jewelry, and wood carvings. Only items that meet the highest
standards of quality and design are displayed, and the prices are reasonable. In addition,
the Mart packages items for shipment and takes orders for shipment abroad.
The government-sponsored Chinese Handicraft Mart is at No. 1 Hsuchou Rd., just
off Chungshan S. Rd., a stone's throw from the Taipei Railway Station. It is open daily
from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (closed on national holidays).
