Water Sports

The island is blessed with many fine beaches, the more popular of which include Yenliao, Fulung, Green Bay, and Chinshan in the north, and Kenting and Oluanpi in the south. The fine natural beaches along the East Coast National Scenic Area are relatively secluded and offer fewer facilities. In general, there are a variety of seashore activities available: surfing, wind surfing, diving, jet-skiing, boating, picnicking, camping, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, parasailing, and even flying ultralight aircraft.

White Water Rafting
For the more adventurous, Taiwan offers water rafting on the Hsiukuluan River from June through September. The trip begins around 8 a.m. near the town of Juisui, which is about 90 minutes by bus south of Hualien. The raft company supplies about six to eight-person rubber rafts, life jackets, safety helmets, box lunches, and showers at the end; customers must bring their own towels and dry clothing. To avoid sunburns while rafting, sports shoes, long trousers, and long-sleeved shirts are advised.
