V isas & travel documents

Visas are required to enter Taiwan, and can be obtained from ROC embassies, consulates, or designated representative offices in visitors' native countries.

However, citizens of the following countries holding passports valid for at least six months may enter Taiwan without visas at the Chiang Kai-shek International Airport in Taoyuan, Hsiaokang International Airport in Kaohsiung, and the Keelung and Kaohsiung international harbors: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Visa-free entry allows stays of up to 14 days starting from midnight on the day of arrival.

Landing visas are available for stays of less than 14 days when approved in advance for tour groups of more than eight people arriving and departing together, invited guests of the ROC government, participants coming to take part in international conferences, artists and cultural performers, and also in cases of emergency.

Tourist visas may be single- or multiple-entry, and allow stays in the ROC for two weeks to 60 days. Unless restricted to two weeks, tourist visa holders may apply for a maximum of two 60-day extensions, for a total of six months.
